Presence Film
The acclaimed director pushes his creative boundaries through this innovative supernatural story filmed completely through the eyes of the phantom. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the lens – as the unseen entity – follows them around. The daughter appears conscious of the poltergeist, and it looks like defensive toward her. But why? This is an entertaining concept that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
The iconic actor fully commits to his cult stardom in this self-referential adventure. This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in 1978 Denver, a series of child abductions has rendered the local kids frightened. Once Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and locked up in a basement, he anticipates a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone on the wall repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators offering help, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, late evening, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Showalter's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced televangelist and her felon spouse. The actor acts as the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye begin monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, yet the lead actress manages to depict Tammy Faye in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, on Film4
