Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
